Liao S126
is a high-quality maize inbred line newly developed and fully
verified across multiple ecological regions. It is suitable for
cultivation in the three major maize production areas of
Huanghuaihai, East North China and Northwest China, and serves
ideally as a female parent for developing high-heterosis hybrids.
This
inbred line was developed using Shen 3336 × 2GAA as the basic
material. Under the intensive selection pressure of large population
and high planting density (8,000 plants per mu), individual plants
with superior resistance were selected and subjected to successive
inbreeding in Shenyang, Pingdingshan and Hainan. Targeted breeding
was conducted through disease inoculation and resistance
identification at early generations. It possesses distinct genetic
differences from mainstream dense-planting and disease-resistant
parents in China, with breakthrough improvements in agronomic traits
and combining ability, providing core parental support for the
upgrading and iteration of maize varieties.
Liao
S126 integrates the advantages of domestic elite germplasm and
American Pioneer germplasm, precisely meeting the planting demands of
the three major production areas of Huanghuaihai, East North China
and Northwest China. It is a core germplasm resource to solve variety
bottlenecks and promote variety renewal and upgrading in major
producing regions.
The
whole growth period of this inbred line for spring sowing is 126
days. It has a semi-compact plant type with upright leaves. Plant
height is about 190 cm, ear height about 70 cm, and the adult plant
has approximately 19 leaves. The tassel has 5–7 branches; silks
are purple, anthers green, and glumes green.
The
ear is conic-cylindrical, 15 cm in length and 4.2 cm in diameter,
with 14–16 kernel rows. The cob is red, kernels are yellow and
semi-dent, with a 100-kernel weight of about 32 grams.
It
exhibits excellent comprehensive resistance: resistant to leaf spot
and head smut, moderately resistant to grain rot, and strong in
lodging tolerance.
At
present, the exclusive right of this parental line has been
transferred, with the transfer fee exceeding 7 million RMB
